Just In Time For Holidays

Doctor Sound Has Cure for Christmas Confusion

Lewisville, TX (PRWeb) December 12, 2006 -- Perils await consumer electronics do-it-yourselfers this Christmas season that can sap their holiday spirit, exhaust their patience and leave home entertainment systems with unfathomable infirmities.

It starts innocently when a new component is added, or perhaps more than one. Individually, each seems simple enough to set up, but the integration, the dark art of making those beautiful boxes work together, is another matter entirely.

If the jargon is decipherable -- terms such as interlaced, progressive and anamorphic, intermixed with numbers like 1080i, 16/9, 3:2, 7.1, 480p and 960i -- figuring out which cord goes where still requires wizard-like skills.

Once everything is connected, consumers often discover the features may not work as expected, such as switching seamlessly from one component to another. Home entertainment system expert Keith Prather, president of Doctor Sound, Inc., says when a home entertainment system is properly installed, operating it should be as simple as playing an iPod.

Prather advises if a sound or home theater enthusiast has all new components still in the box, is adding components to an existing system, or just has a system with "issues," professional home entertainment technicians can make them work right. "We find a lot of people who think companies such as ours only install equipment we sell, but that's just not so," Prather said.

Doctor Sound got its start 10 years ago installing equipment people already had purchased elsewhere. "I was working in a big box store, increasingly finding myself being asked to help people connect all the gear they bought there," Prather said. "That experience convinced me there was a real need for a service that could help people get the performance they expected."

The need for this service is even greater today, Prather says, given the complexity of new components and the wider range of functions, such as Internet connectivity, people want in their home entertainment systems. His company now sells a full range of audio and video equipment, but installation and diagnostic work remains a big part of Doctor Sound's business, no matter where a customer's components were purchased.

Prather says most professional installation companies provide free estimates for installation and diagnostic work. To get the best possible performance from today's very capable equipment, Prather advises consumers to look for companies with technicians certified by the Custom Electronics Design and Installation Association.

He adds this caution, "If a person wants to get installation help in time for the holiday season, they need to call now to schedule service; this is the peak season in this industry."
