Just In Time For Holidays

Synagogue Celebrates Chanukah while Spreading Christmas Cheer at Ronald McDonald House of Southern NJ

Camden, NJ (PRWEB) December 23, 2005 -- Continuing a two decade tradition, families from Congregation M’Kor Shalom synagogue in Cherry Hill, NJ, will be moving into Ronald McDonald House of Southern New Jersey over the Christmas holidays so that staff can enjoy the time at home with their families.

Ronald McDonald House of Southern NJ is a home-away-from-home for families with seriously ill children who are being treated at nearby hospitals. Families currently residing in the house have come from as far away as Puerto Rico and as close as the Jersey shore. As a residential facility, it is staffed 24-hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.

“In addition to staffing the house from December 24 to 26, we will prepare and serve both Christmas Eve and Christmas day dinners, making the holidays festive for the families who must be so far away from home over the holidays,” said Marilyn Hailpern of Cherry Hill, who is chairing the project and participating in it with her family for the ninth year. This year, with the first night of Chanukah coinciding with Christmas, the volunteers will also be lighting a menorah.

“Volunteering at Ronald McDonald House gives us the opportunity to touch the lives of the families, as well as to support the staff so that they do not have to work over Christmas,” Hailpern explained. Performing a “mitzvah” or good deed, is an important part of our heritage, and this holiday tradition at Ronald McDonald House has certainly been a mitzvah for the many individuals and families who work each shift and stay overnight,” she added.
